KathyKathy Hoard was born, raised, married and raised her own three children in the Iowa City, Iowa area. She and her husband Joe, operated Hoard Construction in Iowa and Minnesota from 1973 until 1996 with Kathy being the Office Manager and Bookkeeper.   Many things were learned first-hand while running one’s own business, along with being a student at Kirkwood College.

In 1996 Joe and Kathy decided to move to Minocqua, Wisconsin to start a new venture of selling and building log homes. Kathy continued being Office Manager and Bookkeeper as well as being a Dealer for Lincoln Logs, meeting with customers to design and sell log homes, while Joe did the construction. In 1997 Kathy took Quickbooks courses and gained knowledge of both the standard and payroll side of the program. Kathy was actively involved in the community as a Chamber Ambassador and a Kiwanis member. Kathy also worked part time as a vault teller at a local bank to get to know the community and gained experience working with large amounts of cash and security.

In 1999 Joe and Kathy took their first trip to Alaska for their 30th Anniversary and traveled there twice a year to visit a daughter and her family. They bought an acreage in Sutton in May of 2002 but didn’t permanently move up until July 2006 when Joe semi-retired. They started a part-time vendor based business, “Alaskan Made,” hand-crafting log household items with Kathy doing the hand-painted designs.

Kathy did accounting for several businesses starting in 2007 and added Pollux Aviation Ltd. in 2009. She started working for Pollux Aviation Ltd. full time in the spring of 2014. “I love working for Pollux and the stimulating position it offers me. It’s a great company to work for. I love working with all the guys, customers, vendors and the missions we do all over Alaska.”
